Herman Shelton currently serves as the Executive Director of the Access Center in the Division of Enrollment and Access at CSU. In this role, Herman provides direct oversight for several educational access and outreach programs including: the Educational Opportunity Center, Educational Talent Search, Upward Bound, Reach Out, Dream Project, The Alliance Partnership, Community for Excellence Partnership Engagement and Development, and the Bridge Scholars Program. Herman’s dedication to providing equitable access to education for historically underrepresented populations is rooted in his own educational journey as a first generation college student, as well as his deep commitment to social justice. In 2007, Herman established the first Upward Bound program at Social Justice High School on the southwest side of Chicago, Illinois. He earned his Master’s degree in Social Justice Education from the University of Massachusetts/Amherst in 2003.
